Love Comes Close is the debut full-length from Cold Cave. After releasing singles on Hospital Productions, What’s Your Rupture?, and Dais Records, as well as a compilation of early material (Cremations, Hospital Productions), Cold Cave is now releasing their first realized vision of modern pop music through their own publishing house, Heartworm Press.
Balance is one of Cold Cave’s most dominant features, laced with equal parts of romance and nihilism. Somewhere in the realms of negative hiss and out-of-body bliss, there is a peak awaiting all who enter. Wesley Eisold is joined by an orbiting line-up that includes fellow allies Caralee McElroy (of the experimental indie rock-phenomenon Xiu Xiu), Dominick Fernow (contemporary noise icon Prurient) Max G. Morton (celebrated author) and J. Benoit. Cold Cave is a force that has been compared to Erasure and Whitehouse, one that just does what it does, without forcing unnatural laws. They are a true rarity in this instamatic culture. — Source

BREAK UP includes eight original compositions by Yorn, ranging in tone from the lilting opener “Relator” to the disarming, retro/futuristic “I Don’t Know What to Do” to the climactic “Someday.” Completing the collection is a powerful interpretation of the art-rock classic “I Am The Cosmos” by the late Chris Bell, co-founder of quintessential cult band Big Star. Produced by Sunny Levine, with Yorn and Max Goldblatt as executive producers, the album features contributions from guitarist Robert Francis; bassist Giuseppe Patane; and violinist Amir Yaghmai, with Goldblatt on banjo, synth bass and backing vocals, and Levine handling programming and mixing.
Predating Johansson’s debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, by nearly two years; BREAK UP was conceived and recorded in 2006, in Levine’s garage studio. “I always thought of it as just a small project between friends,” explains Johansson. “I’ve loved the album ever since I heard it completed. It perfectly captured where I was in my life at the time.” Yorn was as protective of BREAK UP as a father of his daughter, playing it for no one until last year. When those close to him finally heard BREAK UP, the overwhelming response convinced Yorn that it was simply too strong a work to remain under lock and key.

Florence Welch, better known alongside her band as Florence& The Machine, confidently announces her arrival on ‘Lungs’. With several strong singles taking up a fair portion of this debut release, it’s clear that Welch is as much a pop writer as she is a left-field artist, despite the early influence of punk and grunge on her life. Musically, these influences are tempered by an admiration for soul and contemporary indie. Welch also received the Critics’ Choice award at the Brits in 2009, usually a sign of big things to come. Includesthe singles ‘You’ve Got The Love’ and ‘Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)’.

The Submarines are composed of John Dragonetti, who previously performed as Jack Drag, and Blake Hazard, great-granddaughter of F.Scott Fitzgerald. The romantically involved couple collaborated on Hazard’s 2002 album “Little Airplane.” Following their breakup, the album “Declare a New State!” was created in 2006, with many songs written separately while they were apart, as well as a new band. They are now married.
Micachu and The Shapes revolves around Mica Levi AKA Micachu. Their debut album Jewellery was released on Rough Trade Records on March 9th. The Shapes is comprised of Marc Pell (Drums) and Raisa Khan (Keybords, electronics and percussions). The band formed in 2008 in London and released their debut single “Lone Ranger” in May 2008, followed by “Golden Phone” in August of 2008.
So, a quick introduction, Björk is said to be a fan of Micachu and can probably identify with another artist brave enough to take pop music into entirely uncharted territory. Micachu is largely inspired by Harry Partch who famously used an array of customized and home made instruments. These included a xylophone made of light bulbs, a ‘Cloud Chamber’ made out of pyrex dishes that could not only be played musically but detect particles of ionizing radiation and a series of highly complicated 44 stringed instruments.
Similarly Micachu uses a modified guitar played with a hammer action called a ‘chu’ and a bowed instrument fashioned from a CD rack. She also uses improvised instruments, such as glass bottles or a vacuum cleaner. They describe their music as pop, but the term may be misleading, as their music veers away from much of pop’s defining characteristics, including obvious choruses and accessible lyrics, and often makes use of unconventional playing styles. — Last.fm

Zee Avi is just 23 but she’s an old soul. A huge talent in a petite frame bringing a universal message from the unlikely birthplace of Borneo, an ancient island east of Malaysia which remains an untouched, natural paradise, an apt description of her songs.
How Avi came to record her debut album in L.A., the first joint release from Ian Montone’s Monotone Label and Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records, is a true 21st century tale of the way the Internet has transformed the music business and shrunk the globe in the process.
Born in the tiny town of Miri in Sarawak on the island of Borneo, Zee grew up near the South China Sea in a liberal, encouraging household where her father owned an energy consultancy. “I was bred to be a lawyer,” she says, but music was in her blood. Her father’s father sang and played double-bass, accordion, violin and guitar in bands.
At age 12, Zee moved from Borneo to Kuala Lumpur where she has been based since. At 17, Zee started locking herself in a room for hours on end to learn to play guitar. Guitar took a back seat for 4 years while she was studying fashion design in London. When she returned to Kuala Lumpur, she picked the instrument back up and began writing songs and performing with a band.

Venice Is Sinking is not your average everyday band, and “Azar” is not your average everyday album. A series of orchestral, shoegazestrumentals by Keyboardist James Sewell, named “Azar One”, “Azar Two”, and so on, are strung out across the record, between songs that are sometimes organic and simple (“Ryan’s Song”) and other times complex and dramatic, like “Okay”, which sounds like a Cranberries cover. But the thing that most marks a VIS album is the complex textures and wide variety of sounds. Singers Daniel Lawson and Karolyn Troupe are perfect for each other his voice is light and strained, hers is rootsy and powerful, a reversed expectation that leads to upside-down harmonies. The album never gets into high gear, but it’s not supposed to. The changes here are more subtle, layered, and precise.
Take “Young Master Sunshine”, a six-minute song that features a slow, almost march-like theme, that creeps forward, threatening to explode but instead ending just slightly faster than it began. This album is meditative but constantly surprising. It belongs right up there with the best work of Yo La Tengo: Experimental but grounded, sad but hopeful, and always, always fascinating.

Hello. I like sharing, and this is a channel for me to do so. Here, you 'll find music, design, and other whimsical whatnots that I personally like. The music files here aren't hosted by me and if they aren't available anymore, there's nothing I can do about it. But maybe – just maybe – if you drop me a nice little email and ask nicely, I could help you get what you couldn't. And oh, buy CDs if you really love the artistes because they need to eat too, and being indie isn't about being cheapskate.
